Walking tour of Upminster. Garden suburb but NOT Hampstead.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of accompanying one of The Twentieth Century Society walking tours, this time in Upminster. It was great fun. Our guide informed us that he’d wanted to tour a garden suburb, so he googled ‘garden suburb NOT Hampstead’. So we ended up in Upminster. Ashburnham Gardens: Formal houses with substantial back gardens

Library: moved here in 1963. Mural telling story of Upminster from St Cedd to Ian Drury, to Terry Fyffes.

South Essex Crematorium: built 1957 onwards
